Mt. Fuji story of Japanese
In Japan natural phenomena of various kinds have traditionally been subject of religious reverence and worship many natural holy sites and places exist in nature. Mount Fuji is one of Japan’s most popular and best-known sacred natural sites. As the tallest single peak in Japan, its imposing presence is viewed from near and far, inspires a powerful spiritual response in people. The history of Mount Fuji as a spiritual place originates in the universal primitive form of mountain worship that is common throughout Japan. Over time, traditional mountain worship merged with introduced religions and evolved into a unique form of worship particular to Mount Fuji. For the Japanese people, Mount Fuji is a symbol of mountain worship as a whole.
Mount Fuji has become an object of religious worship not only as a landmark instilling reverence but also because of the forest ecology of its slopes and the water sources at its foot that have played an indispensable role in human life and livelihood. In addition, its intermittent eruptions and harsh weather phenomena have presented uncontrollable destructive forces. These have contributed to Mount Fuji becoming a genuine sacred zone. Changes in the natural environment of Mount Fuji are directly linked to changes in and loss of the sacred zone.
